Robyn is a mixed media artist working primarily in Encaustic Painting
In the vast expanse of artistic mediums, encaustic art holds a special place in my heart, captivating me with its ancient origins and natural beauty. As a mixed media artist, I am perpetually drawn to the boundless versatility and flexibility that encaustic medium offers. It allows for a harmonious blend of various materials, embedding and layering them in a way that each piece becomes a multi-dimensional narrative. This medium's unique ability to range from soft, subtle hues to bold, vibrant palettes mirrors the spectrum of human emotions, enabling me to communicate complex feelings and stories through my art.The encaustic medium's adaptability has provided me with years of exploration, continually unveiling new textures, techniques, and possibilities. It challenges me to push the boundaries of my creativity, all the while staying grounded in its ancient, organic roots. My journey with encaustic art is a testament to its enduring appeal and transformative power. It is a gift from nature, and I am profoundly grateful for the magic that bees create, allowing me to convey my vision and voice through the intricate layers of my artwork.
Through investigation and play, I’m exploring my own willingness to take risks, to be curious and flexible, to embrace failure and imperfection, to trust myself, and, most importantly, to love myself. My work is a reflection of my explorations about these ideas.
As a mixed media artist who is in love with color and texture, I found Encaustic Painting a perfect medium to manifest the multiple layers of the complexities of what letting go, resilience, and good fortune look and feel like. My work is infused with layers, rewarding those willing to look more deeply with surprises in the nuances of my work – an extension of the idea of good fortune.
My current body of work in development is an exploration of vulnerability, the delicate dance between revealing and concealing, and the complex narratives that emerge when we peel back layers. Each piece represents a moment of incubation, where ideas and emotions ferment below the surface, unseen and unknown. The textures and forms are a testament to the fragility of our experiences, the tension between what we choose to expose and what remains hidden. As the artist, I control the initial narrative, but I am keenly aware that each viewer brings their own story, filling in the gaps left by the unseen. This interplay between artist and audience, between the visible and the hidden, is where the true essence of the work resides. It is in this space that the works are born, not just from the hands of the creator, but through the eyes and minds of those who engage with them.
I am a mixed media artist whose artistic journey is enmeshed in my spiritual practice, finding creative play, investigation, and expression to be a critical life force for my own wellbeing. I am inspired by travel, artistic experiences, all types of artists and art forms, which then manifests in my work. I’m most inspired by my daughter who is a multi-faceted performing artist and author living and working in London in a global capacity. My work often reflects back to me where I’m at in my life giving me a visual language to express my lived feelings and experiences.
